Im trying to go vegetarian but everyone keeps saying that i need to eat meat because i need the protein and then i hear say that thats why theres tofu but it tastes nasty what can i eat to stay healthy? plzz helppp
Take vitamin supplements. B12 and Iron. Beans. Lentals, chick peas, kidney beans… mostly all beans actually. Nuts. Raw almonds, cashews, Brazil nuts. (all unsalted) Veges. There is protein in veges too. Tofu isn’t nasty if you prepare it right. well u could try the flavored tofu because it taste different then regular tofu or u could eat some fish cuz they arent meat and they are high in protien

Tofu tastes like whatever you cook it with. It’s like a flavour sponge. Try out different recipes and hopefully you’ll find one that makes you go "mmm this tofu’s good!" Of course, you can buy soy products that look, taste, and feel like meat favourites – i.e. ground beef, meatballs, chicken breasts, chicken nuggets – all made with soy!
You get protein from vegetables and nuts as well as soy.

You can use vital wheat gluten, and also try nutritional yeast…potatoes and grains have a substantial amount of protein as well.
A lot of people are operating on the misconception that you need a lot more protein than you really do. You shouldn’t let that deter you about becoming a vegetarian.
Also, some vegetarians still eat eggs, fish or dairy, all of which are good protein sources, as are nuts. Peanuts and other nuts have a lot of protein, but are high in fat and calories…but it’s healthy fat, so not to worry about the fat as much as the calories, you don’t want to become a fat vegetarian…Organic, raw nut butters are very healthy protein sources, and soaked raw organic almonds and sunflower seeds are delicious live foods, full of enzymes and protein.
I don’t like tofu either, but tempeh and some other fermented soy products taste much better.
You can flavor the vital wheat gluten to taste like meat, if meat substitutes are something you’re interested in.
And don’t forget beans…there’s lots of protein in beans! I make vegetarian chili and most people like it better than chili with meat even if they’re not vegetarians.

When I first became a vegetarian 5 years ago, a lot of people told me the same thing. However, anyone who tells you that meat is the only way to get protein is way off. While the average diet probably gets most protein from meat, that in no way means that there aren’t healthier protein sources. Here’s a quick list of just some of the foods you can find protein in:
Dairy products
Eggs
Nuts
Meat-substitutes (Veggie burgers, etc. I LOVE Morningstar Farms-it tastes a lot like real meat, with less fat and way more protein)
Tofu (Yes, tofu plain is pretty gross. But the great thing about it is that it has no taste by itself, so you can cook it to absorb any flavor you want. I personally love tofu in a veggie stir-fry with soy sauce, but there are countless ways to prepare tofu)
When you first become a vegetarian, it takes a bit of planning to reshape your diet to get the necessary nutrients, but you get used to looking for other sources pretty quickly. The key is to keep your meals balanced. Overall, vegetarianism is way healthier than a meat-eating diet if you handle it correctly. I encourage you to stock up on other protein-packed foods and try it! Good luck!

Beans are a really good source of protien. soybeans are also, and there is say "hamburgers" and "hotdogs" that have no meat in them, but they taste good. Also nuts, seeds, and yeast. So if you bake a cake with yeast in it, it will have some protien.

Most vegetarians and vegans in the west eat too much protein so get more than enough. The body actually needs very little protein, about 45grams a day and there is protein in everything we eat even salad.
People think meat is 100% pure protein, it isn’t! Chicken is only about 30% protein because it contains other things too (like water – which isn’t protein!!!) you have had some good advice here already for sources but also contact your national vegetarian/vegan organisations who will send you a free “go veggie” pack which will have lots of nutritional advice, plus they should be able to put you in touch with your local veggie group who are often very helpful and can tell you where to get veggie stuff locally
We have a protein obsession in the west which I really wish we would get over. I can’t believe people even pull that one anymore!
PS. Smoked or marinated tofu is great in a stir fry! (rather than the plain stuff)
